Ear Troubles

For the most part Morgan has been pretty healthy since she was born. We occasionally have colds, allergy issues, or short-lived viruses but this is usually few and far between. Morgan has been pretty lucky in the ear infection department, we have only had a couple in the past two years and 11 months. Well, we had a terrible ear incident this past week... Morgan woke up just a few hours after going to sleep screaming hysterically. David and I tried all sorts of things to calm her down but she was inconsolable. Every time she would calm down and start to doze off she would start crying again. I was worried but not panicked because the week before (while David and I were in Aruba) my mom had taken her into the doctor for what turned out to be a sinus infection. The doctor gave Morgan an antibiotic shot and she was doing better but not 100%. She wasn't running a fever so I figured maybe she had a sinus headache or a stomach ache, etc... The next morning I made her an appointment with the pediatrician and I was shocked at the diagnoses. Morgan had a ruptured eardrum. I know, ouch! Apparently, this happens when fluid from an infection gets trapped behind the eardrum and can't drain. The pressure builds until it causes the eardrum to rupture. I had never heard of this. Morgan was put on more antibiotics and some pain meds. The doctor told me this wasn't that uncommon in kids and that the eardrum would heal itself. Morgan is back to her old self now. After a couple of days of being fussy she pulled through it and is as wild as ever : ) I'm just hoping that this was a one time thing.

I realize that I haven't blogged or posted and pics of our trip. I have been playing catch-up ever since I got home. I will try to post sometime in the next week.
