The 3rd and 4th of July

It has been a busy holiday weekend for us : ) Our events started on the 3rd when we attended Phillips memorial celebration. We made the hour and a half drive and were so glad we could show our love and support for Shaunna and the kids, as well as, pay respects to a wonderful friend who left us too soon. The memorial was just as Phillip would have wanted, lots of friends and family gathered together sharing stories, and having a nice time. Shaunna informed everyone from the get-go that there would be no tears, it was to be a happy celebration and that is what it was. After a great meal, Alanna sung "The Wind Beneath My Wings" which brought most of us to tears. She is so talented and brave to sing that song for everyone without crying. Then, Shaunna said a few words about Phillip which also caused some tears. She is so brave and I know she and the kids will get through this difficult time with a lot of prayers and so many friends/family that love and support her. As a symbolic gesture, we all released balloons after a prayer. It was a touching moment to watch 500+ balloons disappear into the sky. Finally, we watched the fireworks. It was a wonderful evening. On the 4th, we woke up as usual to get ready for church. David and I were both shocked that Morgan was not waking up on her own (she is always the first one up). I gave her to the last minute and then woke her up only to discover that her fever was back and she had a very congested head. We decided it would be best to stay home from church to allow Morgan to rest. As the day passed Morgan started getting some energy and her fever began to drop a little. She had begged to go outside and I agreed she could play outside for 10mins and then it was back to resting and watching movies. Well, wouldn't you know, within just a few minutes of being outside it began to downpour! Since Morgan is my water child (jumps in every puddle, loves baths, loves swimming, loves water fountains, etc...) she embraced the rain. I tried to get her in but she was like a little bird that had just been let free. She just ran and laughed and splashed. I finally gave up and let her get a good 5 mins of rain play in before literally dragging her inside. After a hot bath and some chicken soup she agreed to lay down and rest again. As I mentioned in a previous post, our neighborhood puts on a huge all day 4th of July party. We knew we weren't going to attend the majority of it but decided if Morgan felt up to it, we would take her and Carson in the wagon up the street to see the fireworks. We made it up there at dusk and all was fine until the big loud fireworks started going off and Morgan went hysterical (this is very unusual since last year and even the night before the noise did not bother her). She just kept saying the noise hurt her ear. Which automatically made me think ear infection! Yes, we are going to the doctor. When we tried to leave she got even more upset saying she still wanted to see the fireworks. We made a quick trip home and daddy pulled out his firing range earmuffs(?) and saved the day. Morgan was able to comfortably enjoy the fireworks and she even ran into some of her friends. We stayed about 45 mins and then came home to get both kids to bed. Carson was asleep as soon as he hit the crib. Morgans fever was back up, so after some Tylenol kicked in she was sleeping soundly too. I did get a few pics. So that is how we have spent our holiday. We are also proudly flying our American flag and thinking about all those past and present who have served to make our country what it is today. We are very grateful for all the soldiers who have given their lives for our freedom! I am proud to be an American and proud to say, God Bless America!
